The first bequest made by Passmore Edwards was a small village Institute, providing a reading room and games room for the men of the village of Blackwater, where he had been born, and he was to provide a number of similar institutions, for both men and boys during the following decade.

Settlements

The most architecturally and socially important single building was the building he funded for Mary Ward, the Passmore Edwards Settlement, in Bloomsbury.
