Convalescent homes‘Hospitals and Convalescent homes do blessed work’. With the shortage of hospital beds, patients were often sent home to recover; yet conditions at home were such that much of the good done by the hospital was wasted. |
Edwards considered that providing convalescent homes was much like adding another wing to a hospital, but in rural locations where fresh air and rest could best help the patient to recuperate. |
He readily responded to requests directly from hospital Boards and from the emerging trades organisations seeking to provide facilities for their members, providing seven Homes. |
